The whales shorted the top of the stablecoin rally and banked $870K. Machi came within $9 of liquidation
How yesterday's calls did
Scored from our call at 03:15 UTC Oct 21 to 04:20 UTC today.
| Call | What happened | Score |
|---|---|---|
| BTC 81,800–83,500, no lean | High 84,850. The break above did force 0x4b62's short out, as we said it would. | ✗ |
| ETH below 2,414 (Machi's line) before Friday | Low so far 2,433.7. Still open until Friday. | open |
| HYPE 79.5–84, leaning up | Low 78.47. Wrong way. | ✗ |
| SOL 103–110, no lean | 104.97–109.19, inside the whole time. | ✓ |
| Tesla whale switches within 48 hours | Still holds both ZEC and ETH. Open until 03:00 UTC Friday. | open |
1 out of 3 settled, 2 still open. We again underestimated the upside on news day — and then the whole move came back overnight.
The rally, and who sold it
Crypto traded higher on Wednesday. According to Benzinga, the OCC finalized its rules for the GENIUS Act stablecoin law, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent compared it to Lincoln's National Currency Act. Bitcoin reached 84,850 on Hyperliquid at 16:35 UTC. Shorts took $47.9M of the day's $51.6M in liquidations, $33.4M of it in Bitcoin.
By 04:20 UTC today Bitcoin was back at 82,880 — below where Wednesday started. The whales who bet on that were the ones who had just been on the wrong side:
| Wallet | What it did | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 0x4b62…57ca | Short liquidated for $17.1M, reloaded with $509K from another address, shorted again at ~84,565 | +$374K since re-entry, still short $8.7M at 40x |
| 0x4b0c…b370 | Built a $29.2M long into the rally, sold it at 83,495 at 01:00 UTC, flipped to a $20.9M short, closed at 82,951 | +$161K, now flat |
| 0xc3ed…00dd | $25.4M short at 84,405, closed by 03:00 UTC | +$333K, now flat |
About $870K between the three. The full story of 0x4b62 is in today's news: liquidated for $17.1M, shorted again an hour later.
And one wallet went the other way: 0x5e07…9fea shorted $10.1M yesterday and is now long $9.5M at 40x, entry 82,931, liquidation 80,933.
Machi bought all the way up
Machi Big Brother did the opposite of the shorts. As ETH climbed from 2,465 to 2,520 he added about 1,450 ETH. When it turned, he sold 1,900 ETH between 23:00 and 03:00 UTC, on the way down.
He is left with 1,700 ETH at 25x and an account of $116K. His liquidation price is 2,424.60. ETH's low at 03:30 UTC was 2,433.70 — $9 above it.
Right under him, $18 lower, is the Tesla whale 0x30af…393e: 1,936 ETH at 25x, liquidation 2,406.70. Its $19.1M ZEC long is up $745K, which keeps that account comfortable. Machi's isn't.

The bigger ETH longs are all underwater and still adding. 0x77dd…e0e9 bought another $8.2M yesterday: now $118.6M at 10x, down $8.0M, liquidation 2,255. 0x0392…d7d9 bought $7.7M: $109.4M at 9x, down $3.3M, liquidation 2,225. Big trades ($100K+) still net-sold $25.9M of ETH yesterday.
Tesla's earnings, priced overnight on Hyperliquid
Tesla beat on earnings and revenue after the close, then turned lower during the call. According to CNBC, it earned 48 cents a share against 45 expected, on $28.05 billion of revenue. Yahoo Finance reported that caution on robotics and chipmaking — Optimus is about a year from customers, and capital spending guidance was cut to about $20 billion — outweighed the beat.
On Hyperliquid, xyz:TSLA jumped from 386.8 to 395.32 in the first half hour after the release, then fell during the call. It kept falling through the night: 369.4 at 04:00 UTC, −4.5% from the close, already lower than the −3.1% after-hours print. Longs lost $556K to liquidations.
Also in today's news: a Moderna short was liquidated for $4.7M in one minute, then shorted again, ahead of Saturday's cancer vaccine data.
Our call for today
Same rules: our read, scored tomorrow, right or wrong. Prices at 04:20 UTC.
BTC (82,880): range 81,700–84,300, leaning down. We think BTC trades below 81,729 before it trades above 84,300.
- Why: the whole stablecoin-news rally has been given back, and the whales who shorted it are banking profits, not covering in fear.
- Below: 0x92a7…3fea $9.9M at 40x, liquidation 81,729; then 0x5e07's $9.5M at 40x, 80,933; then 76,588 (0x0c4a…1b19, $25.8M at 40x) and 74,791 (0x36cd…d195, $66.7M at 10x).
- Above: the only big short liquidation nearby is 0x4b62 at about 86,450.
ETH (2,444): range 2,380–2,500, leaning down. Yesterday's call stays live: below 2,414 before Friday.
- Why: big trades net-sold for a second day, and two 25x longs sit $18 apart, less than 1% below.
- Below 2,406.70: next is 2,293 (0x469e…58a5, $37.2M at 25x), then the two $110M+ longs at 2,255 and 2,225.
- Above: the nearest short liquidation is 0x9c2a…f6a8's $7.1M at 2,582.
HYPE (79.0): range 76.5–81.5, no lean.
- Why: it slipped back under yesterday's range, and there are still no short liquidations within 12% above — no squeeze fuel either way. The nearest long liquidation is 4% below.
- Below 76.5: 75.71 (0x13da…08be, $10.2M at 10x), then 71.68, the $109M whale that is up $55.6M.
SOL (105.5): range 102.5–108.5, no lean.
Tesla perp: stays below 380 through Thursday's Nasdaq close. Hyperliquid already priced the call overnight; we think the stock market agrees.
The Tesla whale (still open): switches ZEC or ETH by 03:00 UTC Friday.
