The short broke first: $18.4M liquidated on ETH. And the Tesla whale left Google for Zcash
Yesterday in one line: the US open did it. A Hyperliquid whale's 25x ETH short was liquidated for $18.4M, and every major closed up: BTC +1.3% to 82,990, ETH +1.7% to 2,449, HYPE +1.5% to 80.35, SOL +1.4% to 106.51. Liquidations hit $47.8M, 79% of them shorts. ZEC jumped 9.1% with open interest up 31%. Open interest on Hyperliquid's main perps: $11.59B, up 4.9%.

2½ out of 5. The two story calls hit. The three ranges were all too tight on the upside: we underestimated what a US open with shorts stacked overhead can do.
The short broke first
At the US open, ETH climbed from 2,390 to 2,478 in under an hour. 0xb15b…dbae, the 25x short that had already been liquidated for $13.1M on Sunday and came back, was liquidated again: $18.4M between 14:06 and 14:15 UTC, at an average of 2,454. Its account is at zero.
The short right behind it, 0x4b0c…b370, didn't wait. It closed its $24.4M ETH short at 14:08 for an $878K loss, and within the hour went long $21.2M of Bitcoin at 40x, entry 83,035. Same wallet, opposite side, on a different coin.
Machi survived. ETH never came back near his line. He added after the break, then trimmed. Now: 2,150 ETH at 25x, liquidation 2,413.56, an account of $176K.
Now two 25x longs share the floor
Here's the twist. The Tesla whale bought ETH too.
- Machi Big Brother: liquidation 2,413.56.
- 0x30af…393e: 1,936 ETH ($4.7M) at 25x, entry 2,455.28, liquidation 2,405.91.
Two 25x longs, liquidation lines $8 apart, about 1.5% under the price. The squeeze fuel above is gone: the two shorts that were stacked at 2,435–2,451 are both closed. The next short liquidation of size is 0x9c2a…f6a8's $7.1M at 2,566. And big trades ($100K+) net-sold $18.0M of ETH yesterday.

The Tesla whale: Google out, Zcash in

Meanwhile, Tesla. It sold 96,522 TSLA at 360.58 on Monday. The Tesla perp is at 379.92 this morning. Holding would have been worth about $1.87M more. And Tesla reports tonight, 5:30 p.m. ET.
So far: Bitcoin to Tesla took an hour. Tesla to Google took sixteen. Google to Zcash took twenty-five minutes.
The news outside Hyperliquid
- TSLA · earnings tonight: Tesla reports Q3 after the close, webcast at 5:30 p.m. ET (21:30 UTC). Consensus: 44 cents a share, $27.8B revenue.
- SOL · Alpenglow today: Solana's consensus switch is set for about 14:50 UTC, with the handover to the new voting system expected roughly 15:10–15:30 UTC. Finality goes from about 12.8 seconds to about 150 milliseconds.
- HYPE · SEC letters: the comment period on the SEC's proposed crypto rules closed yesterday. The Hyperliquid Policy Center asked for a broader safe harbor, protection for airdrops that reward network use, guidance on token buybacks, and clarity on whether tokens can trade freely through onchain protocols. Bitwise asked for a test fund managers can apply with public information.
- Oil · a $50M bet: 0x0cc1…c7cb now holds $29.9M of WTI and $19.9M of Brent, long at 3x. Brent is at 106.65.
Who changed sides

Our call for today
Same rules: our read, scored tomorrow, right or wrong.
BTC (82,770): range 81,800–83,500, no lean.
- Why: two 40x whales of about the same size face each other, 1% on either side. Big trades were roughly flat yesterday (+$8.9M net on $840M).
- Break above 83,500: 0x4b62…57ca's $22.8M short is forced to buy. After that, no big short liquidations until about 91,000.
- Break below 81,800: 0x4b0c…b370's $21.2M long. Then 79,373 (0x5306…878a, $12.4M at 40x), 76,571 (0x0c4a…1b19, $25.8M at 40x) and 74,774 (0x36cd…d195, $66.6M at 10x).
ETH (2,449): range 2,400–2,520, leaning down. We think ETH trades below 2,414, Machi's line, before Friday.
- Why: the shorts that could be squeezed are gone, big trades net-sold $18M, and $10M of 25x longs sits in one $8 band.
- Down through 2,406: then 2,320 ($12.2M long), then 2,233 (0x77dd…e0e9, $110.5M at 10x).
- Up: the next real short liquidation is 2,566.
HYPE (81.68): range 79.5–84, leaning up.
- Why: it broke out of our range yesterday and held. The 114 big HYPE longs we track average a cost of 63.36, up 29%. There are still no short liquidations within 12% above.
- Break below 79.5: 75.71 (0x13da…08be, $10.6M at 10x), then 71.68, the $113M whale at 5x.
SOL (106.14): range 103–110, no lean.
- Why: Alpenglow goes live around 14:50 UTC. Big shorts ($38.6M) still outweigh big longs ($28.7M), and those shorts are down 8%. A clean launch could squeeze them; "sell the news" is just as possible.
The Tesla whale: we think it switches again within 48 hours, closing either its ZEC or its ETH position by 03:00 UTC Friday.
- Why: three big switches in three days, and nothing held longer than about 29 hours.
